Switzerland is No Longer a Neutral State – Moscow

Switzerland cannot represent Ukraine’s diplomatic interests in Russia as it gave up its neutrality status by joining anti-Russia sanctions, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

On Wednesday, Switzerland and Ukraine agreed that Bern could represent Kiev’s diplomatic interests in Russia, should Moscow consent to such an arrangement.

Switzerland joined EU sanctions against Russia earlier this year. Bern froze assets belonging to Russia’s Sberbank and banned trade in gold products with Moscow.

Kosovo Issues Warning to Serbia

“Despotic President [Vladimir] Putin is a man of war, and he would have interest in spreading war because he wants to normalize war,” - said the leader, who recently tried to impose Kosovan plates and ban cars with Serbian registration from crossing borders, leading to a spate of standoffs between public and police.

Yet former Washington envoy for Kosovan affairs blamed Kurti, tweeting that “[the PM is] trying once again to give it [to] Serbia”.

Britons Struggling to Pay Energy Bills – Bloomberg

British households already owe a record $1.5 billion to their energy suppliers ahead of winter, Bloomberg reports, citing price-comparison service Uswitch.

Data showed that, as of July, energy debts were more than double September’s level. Some 6.5 million households owe an average of $252 to providers, according to the service.

The report explained that each year since 2018, when a UK price cap was introduced, household debts have gradually fallen during summer. However, this year debt jumped by 10% between April and July as a result of soaring gas and power prices.

None of the boats which left Ukrainian ports are headed for African countries suffering “catastrophic levels of hunger”, experts told AP - after Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba promised "Ukraine won't abandon you".

The 10 boats which departed are allegedly carrying animal feed and sailing to Britain, Ireland, Italy, China, and Turkey. The first boat to set sail - the Razoni - was carrying 26,000 metric tons of chicken feed destined for Lebanon - and turned back when the Beirut buyer refused the shipment.

On Monday, Zelensky vowed Ukraine was “ready to continue being the guarantor of world food security”.

Berlin Has a Candidate to Negotiate with Moscow

Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroder could be a possible intermediary in the current dispute with Russia over reduced gas deliveries, incumbent chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Thursday.

It would be “commendable” if Schroder were to talk to Moscow about the turbine that is currently in Germany, Scholz said.

According to Scholz, the return of the equipment vital for the functioning of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline would prompt Russia to restart gas supplies via this route as soon as possible.

In late July, Schroder met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has also urged the German government to reconsider its position on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
