The two women are being tried in Nebraska - accused of assisting and conducting a 24-week termination - after US police sought a warrant to view Facebook messages between the mother and her then pregnant daughter.
It's stated the pair discussed medication and a plan to burn the foetus. In the US, up until June, abortions were allowed before 24 weeks (or when the foetus could be able to survive outside the womb).
The two had claimed a stillborn baby, which they wrapped and buried with the help of man several kilometres away. The other person involved told the police that the women had tried to burn the foetus.

Switzerland cannot represent Ukraineโs diplomatic interests in Russia as it gave up its neutrality status by joining anti-Russia sanctions, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
On Wednesday, Switzerland and Ukraine agreed that Bern could represent Kievโs diplomatic interests in Russia, should Moscow consent to such an arrangement.
Switzerland joined EU sanctions against Russia earlier this year. Bern froze assets belonging to Russiaโs Sberbank and banned trade in gold products with Moscow.
