Hot water from nuclear plants can now be pumped into rivers and lakes after President Macron lifted restrictions to avoid a complete shutdown - putting wildlife and plants at risk.
The strict laws - to protect local flora and fauna - have been lifted for one month as unseasonably warm weather restricts reactors from maintaining supply and an energy crisis limits consumer power consumption.

A knife-wielding man was shot dead by officers at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on Wednesday, local law enforcement has announced.
The police tweeted that officers โshowed composureโ as they neutralized the threatening individual.
According to local media, the perpetrator was a homeless person. He arrived at the airportโs Terminal 2F with a knife and began acting aggressively.
Police reportedly asked him to lay down his weapon on several occasions, but he refused to do so.
