A massive fire at a Cuban oil facility has finally been extinguished after burning for five days, leaving the fuel storage site devastated amid fears the damage will impact the island’s ability to produce electricity.

Interior Ministry officials appeared on state-run television on Tuesday to announce that firefighters had beat the blaze at the Matanzas oil facility, though offered no details as to how much fuel was lost over the last five days or an estimate for overall damages.

Ukraine Should Have Been Encouraged to Become Neutral - German Opposition Leader

Alice Weidel, the head of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AFD) party believes that when talking about the Ukrainian conflict, one has to keep in mind historical background and “Russia’s justified security interests.”

“The incorporation of Ukraine and the plans to integrate Ukraine into NATO, as well as the EU, have for decades been something that the Russians would never accept" as it will make Ukraine an “adversarial power in its backyard,” the German politician clarified.

Weidel also emphasized that her party sees the current conflict in Ukraine as extremely dangerous, not least for Germany, which is not as far away from the battlefields as the US.

Novel Virus Outbreak Sparks Fears in Asia

At least 35 people in China have been struck down by the virus - which causes kidney and liver failure in one-third of patients. With medical experts from the US claiming it can cause “fatal disease” in a New England Journal of Medicine study.

Some symptoms are remarkably similar to Covid-19, with fevers, coughing and loss of appetite reported amongst sufferers. Researchers in Taiwan are currently sequencing the virus DNA - due to be completed in one week.

The pathogen apparently spreads from animals to humans, but it is not yet known if human-to-human transmission is possible.

Warsaw will Deploy ‘All Cannons’ to Disrupt EU – Top Polish Official

Amid calls to exit the union, Poland “does not rule out any possibilities” Sobolewski said in a Polish radio interview Monday.
