Cold Shower Moment: Britons advised to spend less time in the shower

People in the UK have been told to reduce time in the shower by a minute or more to avoid water shortages. (The Sunday Times)

Industry representatives have said that while the measure may be “unpopular,” the country faces a simple choice: either spend a billion pounds on new infrastructure or ask people to spend less time in the shower.

Great Britain has seen it driest July on record, which has resulted in residents using more water. Several regions in the south of England have imposed hosepipe and sprinkler bans this week, citing a lower than necessary level of groundwater.

German football star accused of kicking pregnant girlfriend in stomach

Police in Germany have searched the home of national team and Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schulz after he was accused of kicking his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend in the stomach - a fortnight before she was due to give birth.

The 29-year-old's former partner filed a report for multiple complaints of alleged domestic abuse, which are said to have taken place in 2020.

German newspaper Bild had prosecutors confirm that an investigation into the matter had been opened, and WhatsApp messages obtained by the outlet reportedly include, "You hit me when I was naked in my own apartment."

It has also been claimed that Schulz, who denies all of the allegations, "kicked his girlfriend in the stomach with his shoed foot" which the prosecution say was an attempt to terminate the pregnancy.

Most Ukraine aid is a ‘scam’ – US lawmaker

Republican lawmakers are feeling vindicated for opposing a $40 billion Ukraine aid package after a CBS News report showed that only 30% of the Western weapons flooding into the country are actually making it to the front lines.

“This [is] one of the reasons I voted ‘no,’” US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said on Twitter. Greene was among 57 House Republicans who voted against the massive aid bill.

The CBS story noted that with nearly $60 billion in US and Western European aid approved for Ukraine since Russia’s military offensive began in February, most of the weaponry has failed to get through to Ukrainian fighters. Getting weapons to the troops involves navigating a complex network of “power lords, oligarchs [and] political players,” the outlet cited Lithuanian aid group founder Jonas Ohman as saying.

The continuing military exercises include amphibious assault training

The Chinese military said its drills around Taiwan will continue on Monday, despite initial plans announced last week that they will last until mid-Sunday. They were launched in response to a visit to the island by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The training on Monday will take place in the sea and airspace near the self-governed island, and will focus on anti-submarine and amphibious assault operations, a statement released by China’s Eastern Theater Command said.

Monday’s prolongation of the training near Taiwan is the second announced by the People’s Liberation Ar...
