Beijing seeks to work with Russia to defend international law, the foreign minister says

China wants to work more closely with Russia to defend the global order based on international law, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said.

The statement comes amid growing tensions between Beijing and Washington following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

China successfully launched a new reusable spacecraft propelled by the Long March-2F carrier rocket on Friday, according to local media.

The vessel will “operate in orbit for a period of time” and then return to a landing site in China, the Xinhua news agency reported. During its mission, it will test certain reusable and in-orbit service technologies with the aim of furthering the peaceful use of space, the outlet said.

Moscow has summoned the Bulgarian ambassador to announce its response to the expulsion of Russian foreign embassy workers. In a statement posted on Friday, Moscow says it has declared 14 Bulgarian embassy and consulate workers “persona non grata.”

South Africa Reports First Covid Vaccine Related Death

South Africa's health agency reported a link between the death of an individual and Johnson & Johnson's Covid vaccine on Thursday in the country’s first “casual” link between the two

The person developed the rare neurological disorder Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) soon after being given the jab, and later died. J&J insisted GBS arise from Covid itself or other vaccines; last year the EMA added it as a possible side effect of AstraZeneca’s vaccine.

❗️White House Summoned Chinese Ambassador (Washington Post)

China’s ambassador Qin Gang was summoned to the White House on Thursday to answer for what Washington called Beijing’s “provocative” actions around Taiwan following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.

WH spox John Kirby told WaPo “we condemned the PRC’s military actions, which are irresponsible and at odds with our long-standing goal of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

At the same time, Qin was reportedly told the US maintains its One China policy and wishes to maintain open lines of communication.
