UN Rejected Critical Nuclear Plant Visit - Moscow

The UN has refused Russiaโ€™s offer to arrange a visit to the โ€œcompletely out of controlโ€ Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - despite experts urging it is needed to avoid a nuclear accident, Moscow has said.

Plans were canceled just days before the trip was due to take place despite complex logistics having been arranged, according to Igor Vishnevetsky, deputy director of the Russian Non-proliferation and Arms Control Department.

Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi warned โ€œwe are not sure the plant is getting all it needsโ€ฆ There is a lot of nuclear material in need of inspection. You have a catalog of things that should never be happening in any nuclear facility,โ€

US Senate Endorses Sweden, Finland NATO Membership

The US became the 23rd of 30 NATO member states following France and Italy earlier this week to formally endorse Finland and Swedenโ€™s membership after the US Senate voted 95-1 in favor.

While Senate Leader Chuck Schumer commended the ratification process - the quickest since 1981 - as โ€œa signal to Russiaโ€, the solitary opponent - Republican Josh Hawley - argued that Washington should focus on threats from China instead.

All 30 NATO members must agree for the Nordic nations to be admitted, but only Turkey has so far raised a challenge by demanding the extradition of government opponents it describes as โ€˜terroristsโ€™ in return for support.

Taliban Casts Doubt on USโ€™ Al-Zawahiri Death Claims

Top Al-Qaeda officials were unaware their leader was hiding in Kabul, and an investigation is underway to verify American claims a missile strike killed him, a spokesperson has said.

Washington maintains it took out Ayman al-Zawahiri while he stood on a balcony at his hideout, yet leadership in Islamabad have found โ€œno traceโ€ he was there.

The news comes as insiders say Taliban leaders are considering their response to the drone strike, which could have serious consequences after billions of dollars were seized following the defeat of the US-backed government last year.

UK Migrant Crossings Daily Record For 2022

Nearly 700 migrants have made the journey across the Channel on Monday, surpassing Aprilโ€™s record 651, the UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed. 70 more were held by French authorities on the same day.

"People should always claim asylum in the first safe country they reach, rather than risk their lives and line the pockets of ruthless criminal gangs in order to cross the Channel," said a govt spox.

Dover's Conservative MP Natalie Elphicke insisted that "France has a moral and international obligation to protect vulnerable people, save lives, stop people smugglers and tackle organized crime,"

A total of 17,000 have reached UK shores so far this year compared to the 28,500 in the whole of 2021 and 8,500 in 2020.

Governor Ron DeSantis has refused to declare an emergency over the Florida monkeypox outbreak and vowed not to โ€œrile people upโ€ while lambasting politicians for โ€œtrying to sow fear into the populationโ€.

The Republican condemned Blue states for declaring emergencies and warned of ulterior motives for the measures. โ€œTheyโ€™re going to abuse those emergency powers to restrict your freedom. I guarantee you thatโ€™s what will happenโ€, he said on Wednesday.

His gubernatorial opponent Charlie Crist responded that Floridians need "better testing, and access to vaccines for preventionโ€.
