UN Rejected Critical Nuclear Plant Visit - Moscow

The UN has refused Russia’s offer to arrange a visit to the “completely out of control” Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - despite experts urging it is needed to avoid a nuclear accident, Moscow has said.

Plans were canceled just days before the trip was due to take place despite complex logistics having been arranged, according to Igor Vishnevetsky, deputy director of the Russian Non-proliferation and Arms Control Department.

Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi warned “we are not sure the plant is getting all it needs… There is a lot of nuclear material in need of inspection. You have a catalog of things that should never be happening in any nuclear facility,”

US Senate Endorses Sweden, Finland NATO Membership

The US became the 23rd of 30 NATO member states following France and Italy earlier this week to formally endorse Finland and Sweden’s membership after the US Senate voted 95-1 in favor.

While Senate Leader Chuck Schumer commended the ratification process - the quickest since 1981 - as “a signal to Russia”, the solitary opponent - Republican Josh Hawley - argued that Washington should focus on threats from China instead.

All 30 NATO members must agree for the Nordic nations to be admitted, but only Turkey has so far raised a challenge by demanding the extradition of government opponents it describes as ‘terrorists’ in return for support.

UK Migrant Crossings Daily Record For 2022

Nearly 700 migrants have made the journey across the Channel on Monday, surpassing April’s record 651, the UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed. 70 more were held by French authorities on the same day.
