Iceland Volcano Erupts For 2nd Time in 6,000 Years

Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano - 32km from the key Keflavik airport - has begun spewing forth lava for the second time in over 6,000 years, just over a year since it last erupted.

It burst into activity Wednesday at 13:30 local time, and so far no flights have been canceled. University of Iceland volcanologist Thorvaldur Thordason has played down the “tourist eruption” - as long as the fissure doesn’t grow any larger.

Russia has frequently pointed out the violations committed by Ukrainian forces, foreign ministry spokeswoman says

A report by Amnesty International, accusing Ukraine of placing its military assets in residential areas, only corroborates what Moscow has been saying throughout the conflict with Kiev, Maria Zakharova, Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, has said.

Israeli scientists grew a mouse embryo with a beating heart using only stem cells, research journal reports

In a world first, Israeli scientists have created “synthetic embryos” without using sperm or egg cells, having taken only stem cells from the skin of mice.

The breakthrough experiment, the results of which were published this week in the peer-review journal Cell, saw the stem cells taken from mice “self-assemble” into an embryo-like structure with an intestinal tract, brain and even a beating heart.

According to cell biologist Professor Jacob Hanna of the Weizmann Institute of Science, the results were truly a “...
