Czech Star Reveals Threats after Playing In Russia

Czech hockey star Lukas Klok has said he received threats in his homeland after playing for a Russian team, but has defended his former employers by saying he was “treated perfectly normally” during his time in Russia.

Klok told Czech outlet Sport.cz that he was firmly opposed to Moscow’s military action, but added he would “not condemn the Russians [and say] that the whole nation is bad. They treated me perfectly normally.”

Klok, 27, played last season at KHL team Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, based in Tatarstan, but terminated his contract following the outbreak of the conflict with Ukraine.

The Japanese government is expected to bar Russian President Vladimir Putin from attending the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, if he desires to do so, news agency Nikkei reported on Friday. Abe, Japan’s longest-serving PM, was assassinated earlier this month.

Newspaper Sankei Shimbun quoted a Japanese Foreign Ministry official as saying that Tokyo would formally notify Russia, but “we do not expect them to come.” The ceremony will take place on September 27.

Saudi Citizen Arrested Over Israeli Journalist Getting into Mecca

A Saudi citizen has been arrested for allegedly helping a non-Muslim enter the holy city of Mecca.

The journalist, Gil Tamary of Israel’s Channel 13, previously uploaded a video on Twitter of himself sneaking into Mecca, defying a ban on non-Muslims.

Mecca regional police have given up the Saudi national to prosecutors for alleged complicity in “transferring and facilitating the entry of a (non-Muslim) journalist,” the official Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.

They did not name the journalist, saying he was an American citizen and would also be referred to prosecutors.
