Hacker Convicted Over Largest Data Theft in CIA History

A former CIA software engineer has been convicted on all nine counts - including stealing and transmitting classified information as well as obstruction of justice - in a New York court of leaking sensitive data to Wikileaks in what is believed to be the largest breach in the agencyโ€™s history to date.

Joshua Schulte had worked at the CIAโ€™s Center for Cyber Intelligence, creating cyber tools capable of secretly grabbing data from computers, but prosecutors claimed he was not getting on well with some of his colleagues and management.

To add insult to injury, a contractor was reportedly hired to develop a cyber tool similar to one Schulte had been building. He then allegedly tried to erase any traces of him accessing the computers before quitting the CIA in 2016.

Ukrainian Militants Forced Mothers and Newborns Out Of Maternity Wards โ€“ Russian MOD

The Ukrainian military has been accused by the Russian Defence Ministry of throwing mothers and their newborn babies out of maternity hospitals in the southern Odessa Region. Wednesday's statement added that medical staff who tried to stop them were allegedly assaulted.

Mikhail Mizintsev, the head of Russiaโ€™s National Defense Control Center, added that the Ukrainian forces set up barracks, firing positions, and ammunition depots in a clinic in the DPR city of Ugledar, with heavy weaponry, artillery, and mortars stationed nearby.

Mizintsev urged international organizations, including the World Health Organization, to influence Kiev to put an end to the use of medical facilities for military purposes.

The Gate to Paradise

In Italy, illegal migrants have begun to be resettled from the refugee reception centre on the island of Lampedusa. Due to the large influx, living conditions there have become unbearable. In the last few days, there have been more than 2,000 people in a centre that can host a maximum of 300.

Lampedusa is the closest part of Europe to the African countries refugees are leaving. That is why the flow of migrants has not decreased in recent years. In search of a better life, people are ready to take risks and get to the island on crowded boats. Theyโ€™re not afraid that hundreds of people die in the sea yearly. One of these tragedies occurred in 2014. Then 356 out of 500 people on board were killed in the wreck of a longboat.

Watch our documentary The Gate to Paradise to discover why people, having reached the European continent, begin to realise the risk was in vain.
