Five drivers reportedly chained themselves to the government palaceโs fence and smoke bombs can be seen burning in the crowd.
The cab operators are protesting against pending amendments to law which would allow for online apps to expand the Italian taxi market.
They fear such legislation would bring corporations to the market which would harm small carriers.

'Mr President, this is apartheid' - Pro-Palestine activists meet Biden with billboard campaign
Israeli non-profit organization B'Tselem used the advertising surfaces to raise awareness on Palestinian cause as US President Joe Biden arrived in Bethlehem.
Billboards and placards reading "Mr President, This is apartheid", and a map depicting a current distribution of land between Israel and State of Palestine, could be seen along the road.
The US president is visiting Israel and the West Bank during his trip to the region from July 13-16.
