The US-led military bloc NATO has formally invited previously non-aligned Sweden and Finland to join its ranks.
โToday, we have decided to invite Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO, and agreed to sign the Accession Protocols,โ the bloc said in a statement on Wednesday during the summit in Madrid, Spain.
The two Nordic states decided to ditch their longstanding tradition of not joining a military bloc after Russia sent troops to Ukraine in late February.

UK Foreign Secretary Wants to Send Weapons to Taiwan amid China Tensions
Liz Truss suggested that the UK should provide military aide to Taiwan and with haste while appearing before a foreign affairs committee.
โWe should have done things earlier; we should have been supplying defensive weapons into Ukraine earlier. We need to learn that lesson for Taiwan. Every piece of equipment we have sent takes months of training, so the sooner we do it the better.โ
Currently, the UK has no diplomatic or defense ties with Taiwan. Fears of a military conflict between it and mainland China has been on the rise in recent months, with border incidents now occurring on a weekly basis.
