NATO summit kicks off in Spain

The increase of forces, aid to Ukraine, and the blocโ€™s further expansion are on the agenda

NATO, the US-led military bloc, kicked off its annual three-day summit in Madrid on Tuesday.

The 30-member organization will focus on strengthening its forces in Europe and elsewhere in the wake of Russiaโ€™s military campaign in Ukraine, which was launched in late February. Members are also expected to discuss more aid to Kiev, as well as the prospect of Sweden and Finland joining the bloc.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that the bloc would increase the number of its rapid-response troops from roughly 40,000 to...

Biden administration officials reportedly believe Kiev should redefine what it would consider victory against Russia

Some people in the Biden administration are skeptical about Kievโ€™s ability to turn the tide of war against Russia and mount an effective counteroffensive to retake the territories lost in the past four months, CNN reported on Tuesday. They believe Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should moderate his expectations and redefine what he would consider victory against Russia, the news outlet said.

Others in the US government remain hopeful that Kiev can defy the odds, if provi...

Vaccine Deadline: 40,000 National Guard Risk Dismissal

Up to 40,000 National Guard soldiers - 13% of the entire force - face being forced out of service for not having got the mandated vaccine yet - as Thursday's deadline to do so approaches.

14,000 have reportedly flatly refused to get jabbed, while between 20-30% of NG troops are still unvaccinated in six states. Seven governors have begged Def Sec Lloyd Austin for the mandate to be reconsidered.

The uptake drive has been complicated by a temporary loophole; those forces on active duty in states that donโ€™t demand vaccines cannot be forced to do so while remaining on duty.

During the sessions, staff were reportedly told that โ€œpeople can self-identify themselves in over 150 ways and increasing!โ€

They were also shown examples of newly-invented gender pronouns such as โ€œxe, xem, xyrs,โ€ and told to include their own pronouns in their email signatures to be more...

Sri Lanka FUEL CRISIS: Schools Shut, Public Sector Told to Work from Home

Some have waited in line for over 4 days, with no petrol left to even get home. Government stockpiles have dwindled to 9,000 tons of diesel and 6,000 tons of petrol with no new shipments, due to drained foreign currency reserves.

An IMF team is visiting until Thursday to discuss a $3bn bailout program.

โ€œMild Recessionโ€ Awaits UK as Cost-of-Living Takes Toll

Amidst the fastest price hike in 40 years, rocketing interest rates and energy price crises, Britain faces a โ€œsignificant riskโ€ of a mild recession according to a report released Monday by consultants KPMG.

The report expects economic growth to hit 3.2% this year before contracting to just 0.7% next year, with Bank of England interest rates - already at a 13-year high - to hit 1.75% in 2022.

Wages are failing to keep up with inflation too meaning the rot may have already set in with lower spending; household incomes are forecast to drop 0.8% in real terms this year before another drop of 0.5% next year.
