SCOTUS Backs Coach Sacked For PRAYING After Games

The Supreme Court has sided with a football coach who sued the Washington state school district that fired him for praying by the field immediately after games, defending his right to engage in โ€œa brief, quiet, personal religious observanceโ€.

Bremerton School District had asked Joe Kennedy to pray alone away from students to not pressure them into joining him, suggesting it interfered with his โ€œjob responsibilitiesโ€.

Judge Neil Gorsuch explained the decision, claiming: โ€œthe Constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression.โ€

Turkey Explains Not Sanctioning Russia

Turkey does not follow the Western lead in sanctioning Russia because it is guided by pragmatic economic considerations and โ€œa policy of balance,โ€ the Turkish presidentโ€™s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin has said.

In an interview with Haberturk TV, Kalin said that Ankara is โ€œdependent on foreign sources for energy, we develop relations with Russia as we do with Iran,โ€ he explained, noting that Turkey also enjoys good relations with the US and other Western countries.

In Kalinโ€™s opinion, imposing sanctions on Moscow โ€œwill harm Turkey's economy more than Russiaโ€™s.โ€

The meeting of the heads of the leading developed economies might be just a โ€œuseless PR spectacle,โ€ claims ARD

This yearโ€™s G7 summit, which is being held at Germanyโ€™s Elmau castle โ€“ a luxury hotel in Bavaria โ€“ cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of euros, the German state broadcaster ARD has reported while questioning the worth of the event.

The gathering is an informal two-day meeting of the leaders of the seven largest Western economies โ€“ the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan โ€“ during which a number of non-binding commitments are usually agreed.

Held between June 26 and 28, it cost โ‚ฌ166 million ($175.7 mil...

Ursula von der Leyen spoke against โ€œparalyzingโ€ the G20 despite calls to boycott the upcoming summit because of Russia

It is better to have a frank face-to-face conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin than boycott the Group of Twenty (G20) summit this year, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has insisted.

โ€œIt is also important to tell him to his face what we think of him and what we think of this kind of action,โ€ von der Leyen told the German broadcaster ZDF on Sunday. However, she said there can be no โ€œbusiness as usualโ€ with Russia after it launched a military campaign in Ukraine in late February....

Israel is in for a fifth election in four years, and former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu could score a comeback
