US lawmakers attempt to declare Ukraine conflict a โ€˜genocideโ€™ โ€“ media
RT World News (RSS)

While the representatives symbolically accuse Russia of ethnic cleansing, the charges are dubious

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers introduced a resolution on Friday accusing Russia of committing โ€œgenocideโ€ in Ukraine. The draft resolution reportedly accuses Russia of crimes that Moscow says were actually committed by Ukrainian forces and claims that Russian-speaking refugees were brought to Russian territory against their will.

The resolution, entitled โ€˜Recognizing Russian actions in Ukraine as a genocide,โ€™ was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tennessee) on Friday. While i...

US Now International โ€˜Outlierโ€™ โ€“ Biden

President Joe Biden claimed on Friday that a Supreme Court ruling restricting abortion access has made the US โ€œan outlier among developed nations.โ€ However, while some states have pressed ahead with banning the procedure, others are writing laws in line with other wealthy nations, and Democratic-run states are pushing far more permissive policies than many European countries.

Biden addressed the nation after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade, a 1973 ruling that guaranteed the absolute right to a first-trimester abortion and limited rights in the second. Writing the majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito argued that Roe v Wade rested on an โ€œegregiously wrongโ€ and โ€œexceptionally weakโ€ interpretation of the Constitution, and that by striking down this ruling, the court would โ€œreturn the issue of abortionโ€ to state...

Ukraine wonโ€™t pursue NATO membership โ€“ Zelensky adviser

Ukraine has accepted that NATO membership is off the table, and will not take any further steps toward joining the US-led military alliance, Igor Zhovkva, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, told the Financial Times on Saturday. Nevertheless, Kiev wants a say in NATOโ€™s policies.

NATO leaders are set to meet in the Spanish capital of Madrid next week, and during two days of meetings and consultations, the alliance will unveil its Strategic Concept โ€“ a document that outlines the allianceโ€™s mission and stance toward non-members, including China and Russia.

The UN health body says monkeypox is not yet a โ€˜public health emergency of international concernโ€™, like Covid-19 and polio

The World Health Organization has stopped short of raising alert over the widening monkeypox outbreak to the highest-possible level during an emergency committee meeting on Saturday, even as the head of the UN watchdog, Tedros Ghebreyesus, called it โ€œclearly an evolving health threat.โ€

โ€œI am deeply concerned by the spread of monkeypox, which has now been identified in more than 50 countries, across five WHO regions, with 3000 cases since early May,โ€ Ghebreyesus said in a stateme...

Trudeau says no gov't should tell a woman what to do with her body the same day he defends vax mandates

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended Canada's vaccine mandates while calling the overturning of Roe V. Wade "an attack on everyone's freedoms and rights."

During the interview with the CBC, Trudeau again insisted that Canada's vaccine mandates were a "choice" and that "nobody was ever was going to force anyone into doing something they don't want to do." Canada's federal vaccine mandates made it so that public servants were required to be vaccinated to keep their jobs, and made it so that the unvaccinated could not board a plane or train in Canada.

China threatens military action

Beijing will use all possible means to regain control over Taiwan, including military ones, Chinese ambassador to France Lu Shaye has said.

โ€œWe canโ€™t leave Taiwan independent,โ€ Lu insisted during his interview on Thursday with YouTube channel Livre Noir.

โ€œWeโ€™ll retake Taiwan by all means, including military ones. If we canโ€™t reunify the country by peaceful means, what else are we left to do?โ€ he pointed out, becoming yet another Chinese official to offer such a warning.

The ambassador has blamed the US for stirring tensions around both Taiwan and Ukraine, where Russiaโ€™s military operation is ongoing.

Sweden should address fundamental issues to join NATO โ€“ key member

The Swedish government should deal with issues of โ€œfundamental importanceโ€ for Turkey to reach an agreement on its NATO membership bid, Ankara said on Saturday. The news follows a phone call between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.

Stockholm should โ€œchange its attitudeโ€ towards the Kurdistan Workersโ€™ Party (PKK), which Turkey and many Western nations consider a terrorist organization, the Turkish presidentโ€™s office said in a statement. So far, Stockholm has not taken any โ€œtangible actionโ€ to alleviate Ankaraโ€™s concerns in this regard, it added.

The US defense chief vows to protect โ€˜health and well-beingโ€™ of American troops
