โ€ŠAustralia Chases the Dragon
Strategic Culture Foundation (RSS)

Despite the Labour Party winning their recent election, Australia remains NATOโ€™s aggressive pit bull in the Southern Seas, Declan Hayes writes.

Despite the Labour Party winning their recent election, Australia remains NATOโ€™s aggressive pit bull in the Southern Seas.

No sooner had the Labor Party regained power but Penny Wong, their new Foreign Minister was, as this White House briefing clearly shows, off chasing the Chinese dragon, reading the QUADโ€™s riot act to Fiji and the various other minnow states that dot those vast tracts of oceans.

Next stop was Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands, which has had the temerity to act as the independent nation that she is. When Honiara cut ties with Taiwan and switched allegiance to Beijing in November 2021, the CIAโ€™s agents torched much of Chinatown, prompting Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to request help from Australia under the 2017 bilateral security treaty Honiara signed with Canberra. When that help was not forthcoming, Beijing stepped up to the plate.

Chinaโ€™s determination to protect all Solomon Islanders is important on a number of fronts. Beijingโ€™s current pro-activism is in stark contrast to earlier Sinophobic rapes and murders in Indonesia by Australian backed extremists, which went unanswered. China is signalling that those days are now gone.

With the Solomon Islands jumping ship, that just leaves Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See (Vatican City), Honduras, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tuvalu recognizing Taiwan. As several of these countries are in the South Pacific, Uncle Sam feels that its Australian sheep dog is not doing its job of keeping these lambs in order.

Penny Wongโ€™s job is to kick the South Sea Islanders back into line by lying that Australia has their back, and that they must therefore know their place. Though Wong herself is a Malaysian Christian lesbian, who has had several children by IVF, God knows what her Buddhist family, the wider Chinese family or the good folk of the South Seas make of this very unique role model.

Australia, Americaโ€™s pit bull, must muzzle several stakeholders here. One is the French they recently double crossed in their nuclear submarine deal. The next is the awakened Chinese dragon, which is casting off its century of shame by defending and promoting its international interests. Then there are the South Sea Islands which, in bygone days,...

Mexico Will Ask Biden to FREE Assange โ€“ President

WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has been treated โ€œvery unfairlyโ€, and Mexico is willing to provide Assange sanctuary, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told reporters Tuesday.

He called the UK decision to extradite Assange to the US as โ€œvery disappointing.โ€ The Mexican president intends to ask Biden to drop charges against Assange when they meet next month as "humanity must prevail.โ€

"Julian Assange is the best journalist of our time in the world and he has been treated very unfairly, worse than a criminal,โ€ AMLO said. โ€œThis is a shame for the world.โ€

Europe Told to Be Ready for Total Cut of Russian Gas

International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol has warned Europe to be prepared for the possibility of a complete shutdown of Russian gas exports this winter, calling on EU governments to widen the span of measures aimed at preparing for this scenario, the Financial Times reports.

โ€œEurope should be ready in case Russian gas is completely cut off. The nearer we are coming to winter, the more we understand Russiaโ€™s intentions,โ€ he said, as cited by the news outlet.

โ€œI believe there will be more and deeper demand measures [taken by governments in Europe] as winter approaches,โ€ Birol said. He noted that gas rationing is a possibility, which could help offset the consequences of losing Russian gas and offered the bloc to โ€œconsider postponing closures [of nuclear power plants] as long as the safety conditions...

Kim Jong Un Convenes Military Meeting amid Tensions

North Koreaโ€™s senior military officials were summoned by leader Kim Jong Un to discuss โ€œcrucial and urgent tasksโ€ involving national defense and weapons development Tuesday, state media confirmed.

The commissionโ€™s meeting could last for days, with analysts from South Koreaโ€™s Sejong Institute speculating deployment of some of the systems that have been recently tested could be on the agenda.

Pyongyang has already broken an annual record of ballistic missile test launches in 2022 with 31 missiles launched over 18 test events but hasnโ€™t tested nuclear weapons since 2017.

Russia Claims Hundreds of Casualties during Strike in Ukraine

Russian strikes on a shipbuilding plant in the Ukrainian port of Nikolaev killed as many as 500 troops Tuesday, the Russian defense ministry claimed during a daily press briefing the following day.

The troops belonged to the Ukrainian Armyโ€™s 59th Mechanized Brigade, the report said, who itโ€™s believed were taking cover at the Okean Shipyard. The facility is in the southern part of the Ukrainian city that stands on a major river some 60km inland from the Black Sea.

The ministry said the Russian Air Force had used precision weapons to strike the plantโ€™s workshops, killing Ukrainian service members and destroying arms and military vehicles.

Uvalde Gunman Could Have Been Neutralized โ€œIn 3 Minutesโ€ - Texas Safety Chief

Director of the Texas Dept of Public Safety Steven McCraw has accused the on-site commander at the Uvalde school shooting of โ€œabject failureโ€ and โ€œterrible decisionsโ€, claiming enough body-armored cops were present just three minutes after the shooter entered the school.

"The only thing stopping a hallway of dedicated officers from entering Room 111, and 112, was the on-scene commander, who decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children," McCraw told a Texas Senate hearing on Tuesday.

He added that the response was โ€œantithetical to everything weโ€™ve learned [after the Columbine shooting]โ€.

Any Attack on Lithuania โ€˜Would Be an Attack on All NATO Members' โ€” Washington Responds to Blockade of Russian Exclave

The US says that it โ€œappreciatesโ€ anti-Russian sanctions imposed by EU nations and that its military is committed to the defense of Lithuania, after the country banned some Russian goods from passing through its territory to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

โ€œWe stand by our NATO allies, and we stand by Lithuania,โ€ US State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters.

โ€œSpecifically, our commitment to NATO's Article Five - the premise that an attack on one would constitute an attack on all - that commitment on the part of the United States is ironcladโ€.
