Pegasus Used by at Least 5 EU Countries - NSO Tells Lawmakers
Israeli firm NSO admitted to the European Parliament committee Tuesday that they โmade mistakesโ, but canceled a contract for Pegasus spyware with one EU country that had abused the surveillance technology.
NSO Chief Counsel Chaim Garland said, โat least 5โ EU countries had used Pegasus, but that he would need to come back with a โmore concrete numberโ.
Reports of Pegasus being used to target political opponents in Spain, Poland and Hungary prompted the investigation, with calls to regulate the software that NSO admit they canโt control its use.
That might be an idea.

Russiaโs SWIFT Substitute Ready for BRICS Nations โ Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that banks from BRICS nations can freely connect to the System for Transfer of Financial Messages (SPFS), Russiaโs alternative to SWIFT.
According to Putin, financial institutions in Brazil, India, China and South Africa can now be connected to SPFS
SPFS has similar functionality to SWIFT and allows transmission of messages between financial institutions in the same format. It was created by the Bank of Russia as an alternative to the Belgium-based system in 2014, when Moscow was hit with Western sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.

Ukraine should not expect a fast track to EU membership despite there being a consensus on granting it candidate status, French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clement Beaune has cautioned.
Speaking with the host of Franceโs Europe 1 radio station Wednesday, Beaune said there was โtotal consensusโ among EU members that Ukraine is eligible to become a candidate nation. The official added that he expected this to be formally โconfirmed on Thursday and Friday.โ
Beaune certainly seems to have a point, as evidenced by the cases of Turkey and Montenegro, which received the status in 1999 and 2012 respectively and have still not joined the bloc.

Russia Sets Rules for Foreign Debt Payments
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree establishing a temporary procedure for payments of external foreign currency public debt on Wednesday.
The bond-payment procedure mirrors the mechanism Moscow uses to process payments for its gas, in rubles.
Putin also instructed the Cabinet of Ministers and Ministry of Finance to identify banks for payments on Eurobonds under the new scheme within 10 days and make the necessary technical arrangements.
