Ruble Hits 7yr High: 53 to USD In Moscow Trading
Wednesday trading saw the ruble leap to its best rate since June 2015 of 53 against the US dollar, while reaching 55.36 to the Euro, its best rate since May 2015.
Strong commodity exports, trade balances and the upcoming tax period for companies are all cited as supporting the Russian currency’s performance.
Despite ruble’s boost, stocks showed a mixed reaction amidst month-low Brent crude oil prices of $109.6/barrel; the USD-denominated RTS Index went up 0.8%, but the ruble-denominated MOEX Russian index dropped 0.5%.

Flood Warnings Upped in Record Breaking South China Water Levels
State media has reported two provinces in south China have upgraded their flood warnings after record-breaking rainfall has seen rivers burst and water levels reach 5-year highs.
Residents near riverbanks and on low-lying ground in Guangdong province have been urged to move to higher ground as construction sites, business, public transport and docks may face shutdowns.
Jiangxi province suffered over $70mn losses as 43,300 hectares of crops were destroyed as 485,000 people were affected amidst a flood red alert.

UK Inflation Hits 40yr High at 9.1% in May
The soaring energy crisis, rocketing food and fuel prices and housing costs have been blamed for the UK’s fastest inflation rise in 40 years in May that hit 9.1% according to official Office of National Statistics data.
The Consumer Prices Index broke the previous all-time record high of 9% set in April this year, while the rate including housing costs rose by 7.9% - the most in over 30 years, when Britain was in a recession.
Bank of England estimates suggest inflation will keep pushing up to around 11% this year.
