Turkey/Finland Talks Going Nowhere — Helsinki

Talks between Turkey and Finland, aimed at changing Ankara’s mind and to withdraw its refusal to let Helsinki into NATO, have apparently failed.

“We did not make any progress at the meeting with Turkey, so we will probably not be able to join NATO until September,” said Finnish President Sauli Niinisto at a press conference.

“Although no special progress was made at the meeting, we are pleased that discussions have begun. I would not like to say the exact date, but we are unlikely to become a member of the organization by September,” he reiterated.
