In June 2022, some 6,000 migrants set off from Mexico in one of the largest caravans bound for the United States. Over the last four years, migrant caravans have become a common phenomenon. Men, women and children from Central and South America trek hundreds of kilometres on foot across multiple borders. As a result, hundreds of thousands are caught at the doorstep of the US, but migrants remain undeterred and keep marching towards a safer life in the United States.

UK Set for Biggest Rail Strike in 30yrs

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has refused to join talks claiming the dispute is between employees and their companies, but unions claim his department controls contracts and funding while rail operators have been told they can’t offer pay rises.

Shapps accused union leaders, who are protesting a salary freeze during rocketing inflation, of “gunning for a fight” that will “punish millions of people”.

Russian Food and Fertilizers are Free from Sanctions - EU

Anyone who wants to buy Russian food and fertilizers can do so freely and without the fear of sanctions, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said Monday.

“Our sanctions don’t target food, don’t target fertilizers. Everyone that wants to buy Russian food and fertilizers, they can do it, no obstacles... so they can operate, they can buy, they can transfer, they can insure,” Borrell told the press.

However, EU sanctions do target Russian shipping, preventing the country’s grain and fertilizers from being delivered to the global market. This has led to a growing food crisis, with wheat prices surging to record highs over the past two months.

Japan’s Same-sex Marriage Ban NOT Unconstitutional – Court Rules

An Osaka court has ruled Monday that banning same-sex marriage is not unconstitutional in the country’s second-ever such case, after a March 2021 decision of a Sapporo court had ruled it was.

Three couples were seeking central government action and $7,400 damages each; the court rejected both, ruling marriage was defined as being between opposite genders.

Japan does not allow legal rights to inherit each other’s assets, share parental rights over children, or to marry, but a Tokyo govt poll last year found 70% want same-sex marriage legalized.

One Goldman Sachs leader claimed there could be financial motivations for reversing the current legal stance. "International businesses don't want to invest in a location that isn't LGBTQ-friendly."
