UK Must Be Ready to Defeat Russia - New Army Chief

The British Armyโ€™s new chief of General staff has insisted there is a โ€œburning imperativeโ€ that his forces fulfil their โ€œcore purpose to protect the UK by being ready to fight and win wars on landโ€ฆ and defeat Russia in battleโ€.

General Patrick Sanders claimed, โ€œwe are the generation that must prepare to fight in Europe once againโ€ in a โ€œnew era of insecurityโ€.

His comments came just a day after PM Boris Johnson claimed the UK needed to โ€œsteel itself for a long warโ€ because Russian President Vladimir Putin is resorting to a โ€œcampaign of attritionโ€.
