Britain’s Chief of the Defence Staff, General Nick Carter, has said after the Defender incident that a miscalculation in the cat-and-mouse game with Russia could lead to a "full blown war," the Telegraph reports.

After admitting the tension “keeps [him] awake in bed at night”, he explained that the situation was a “classic example of a battle of the narratives”.

“The jury is out as to who won that battle,” he added.

After the tense confrontation in the Black Sea this week, Gen Carter admitted that opponents and their technology are “evolving at pace”, making the UK “somewhat vulnerable”.
