US to Remove 5 Extremist Groups from Terror Blacklist

Washington is dropping five - believed-to-be inactive - extremist groups from its terrorism list, some of which are responsible for hundreds of deaths across Asia and Europe.

The โ€˜whitelistedโ€™ groups include the Basque separatist group ETA, the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo, the radical Jewish group Kahane Kach and two Middle-Eastern Islamist organizations.

According to State Sec. Anthony Blinken, the decision to remove the groups from terror watch lists was made after a mandated review of their operative status, which is required every five years.
