US to Remove 5 Extremist Groups from Terror Blacklist
Washington is dropping five - believed-to-be inactive - extremist groups from its terrorism list, some of which are responsible for hundreds of deaths across Asia and Europe.
The ‘whitelisted’ groups include the Basque separatist group ETA, the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo, the radical Jewish group Kahane Kach and two Middle-Eastern Islamist organizations.
According to State Sec. Anthony Blinken, the decision to remove the groups from terror watch lists was made after a mandated review of their operative status, which is required every five years.
