Swiss EU Border Vote May See Schengen Zone Split
Switzerland will vote on Sunday whether to approve boosted funding for the EU border police agency Frontex, after opponents collected over 62,000 signatures to force a referendum.
Campaigners have accused the agency of human rights abuses against migrants - executive director Fabrice Leggeri resigned in April under pressure from EU investigators - and believe the funding could be better spent internally.
Swiss voters have been warned by bloc officials the country risks being kicked out of the Schengen visa-free zone if it votes no.

Will Shireen Abu Aklehโs Murder Mark a Turning Point in the Liberation of Palestine?
MintPress News (RSS)
JERUSALEM โ As I write these words, the world is trying to make sense of the brutal assassination of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was targeted by Israeli forces while covering yet another Israeli assault on Jenin. Furthermore, Israeli forces have now attacked the funeral procession leading Shireen to her final resting place. One wonders why is anyone surprised.
How often have we seen innocent lives taken? How often have we seen the Israeli military attack funeral processions? And yet, for reasons that perhaps cannot be explained, awe, sadness, and despair have descended upon the world with this particular killing...

Russiaโs military campaign in Ukraine is to blame, the German foreign minister claims
