The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking to launch prototype satellites to track, monitor, and issue early warnings from space. The satellites will be used to track hypersonic, cruise, and ballistic missiles, MDA director Vice Admiral Jon A. Hill told the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee panel on Wednesday.

Ruble World’s Top Performing Currency Against US Dollar - Up 11%

Despite the raft of sanctions designed to cripple the Russian economy, the ruble has been the best-performing global currency against the US dollar in 2022, gaining 11% according to Bloomberg data.

Insisting oil payments be made in rubles has boosted the Russian currency’s value to outperform the Brazilian real (9% gain on USD), as more EU buyers comply with Moscow’s payment demands.

It isn’t just the dollar that the ruble has gained ground on - the Moscow Exchange traded the euro at 68 to the ruble for the first time since January 2020.

UN To Discuss Taliban Order For Women Face Covering

The UN Security Council will convene Thursday to discuss the Taliban’s order for Afghan women to cover their faces and stay at home unless essential, or risk their male relatives being jailed.

It marks a return to hardline rules that characterized Taliban rule from 1996-2001, when women were barred from work and school.
