World Bank: 'Precarious’ Palestinian Economy Needs MORE Aid
Despite the West Bank economy growing in 2021, there was a record-low in foreign donations. The findings from a new report comes ahead of a donor conference in Brussels.
The World Bank is urging nations to do more to boost the Palestinian Authority, to avoid a "destabilizing budget crisis."
Food security is worsening in some areas, as Palestine begins to rebound after Covid-19 with an increased number of Israeli work permits to find jobs.
The war in Gaza last year has also impacted.
“The fiscal situation remains highly challenging,” the organization said, adding that the PA was now paying only “partial salaries since November.” The PA’s 2021 budget deficit hit $1.26 billion, while a “record low” $317 million was received in foreign aid, the World Bank said.
Will nations step up?
