Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaska resigned on Monday after months of violent protests. The country has defaulted on its foreign debt payments and rationed fuel amid skyrocketing inflation that has plunged many of its citizens into poverty.

The PM handed his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his younger brother, according to multiple media reports. The resignation dissolved Rajapaskaโ€™s cabinet, which was only formed last month after all of the previous cabinet members resigned.

EU to Drop Proposed Ban on Bloc Vessels Transporting Russian Oil to Third Countries - Bloomberg

The European Union is set to weaken its sanction package on Russian oil after a weekend of talks - permitting bloc tankers to move Moscowโ€™s oil to other buyers.

Greece - among the worldโ€™s largest shipowners - is believed to be one of the member states that pushed for the provision to be removed. However, the EU will retain its plan to prohibit insuring those shipments, according to documents seen by Bloomberg

EU countries are still debating its sixth package of sanctions on Mosocw this week, with diplomats trying to overcome objections from Hungary to a proposed ban on Russian oil.

Over 2MN Adults in UK Canโ€™t Afford to Eat Every Day - report

One in seven UK adults - 7.3mn โ€“ now fall under the โ€˜food-insecureโ€™ bracket, up from 4.7mn in January, according to a food poverty report by Thinktank the Food Foundation.

The survey also reported a 57% jump in the proportion of households cutting back on food or skipping meals, while an estimated 2.6mn children report they now have smaller meals than usual, regularly skip meals altogether, or do not eat when they are hungry.

The Food Foundation said it was so shocked by its initial findings that it reran the survey on a wider basis, only to get the same results.
