Shell Fuel Windfall Tax Calls After Posting RECORD $9.13bn Quarterly Profits

Shell reported a record Q1 profit of $9.13bn Thursday as soaring energy prices boost their bottom line despite writing down $3.9bn following their partial withdrawal from Russia.

The company will maintain two contracts with a โ€œsmall, independent Russian producerโ€, still has long-term contracts to import Russian LNG, and maintains $1bn of Russia assets according to CFO Sinead Gorman.

The company also reported $5.4bn in dividend and share purchase payments. Britainโ€™s Labour Party, meanwhile, is calling for a windfall tax to ease the burden of the energy price surge.

Cops Clash With Palestinians In Al-Aqsa Mosque Violence (TRT World video)

More violence flared up outside Jerusalemโ€™s Al-Aqsa Mosque on Israeli Independece Day on Thursday as police began clearing out Palestinian protesters to allow Jewish worshippers to resume visits to the holy site.

A senior Palestinian liason with Israel warned that campaigns for the Israeli flag to be raised at the site would show an โ€œoutrageous disregardโ€ for Palestinians, while Hamas warned Israel was โ€œplaying with fire and dragging the region into an escalationโ€.

Eye-witness reports contradicted police claims that aggression was started by rock-throwing Palestinians, but Israel has maintained it is in fact Hamas inciting the recent spate of violence.

Shareholders SUE Netflix For Lying About Subscriber Growth

Netflix shareholders filed a lawsuit against the streaming platform Wednesday, accusing the streaming platform of defrauding investors by failing to disclose dropping subscriber numbers.

Last month Netflix reported losing almost 200,000 subscribers in Q1 of 2022 and expects 2mn more to leave in coming months, leading to a 25% drop in share prices within hours.

While the company has gained 500,000 subscribers from other countries this year so far, it lost 700,000 from Russia following its withdrawal from the country after the conflict in Ukraine began.

Usuga had evaded arrest for a decade after his first indictment in Manhattan in 2009, and was finally caught during an operation involving 500 soldiers and 22 helicopters.
