UK Parliament Summons Elon Musk
British lawmakers have called on billionaire entrepreneur Musk to give testimony about his planned $44bn purchase of Twitter, asking him to detail his vision for the social media giant.
The request was made public early on Wednesday by MP Julian Knight, who chairs the UKโs Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee.
Elon Musk told AP that while he is โhonoredโ by the invitation, โit would be premature at this time to acceptโ given that Twitterโs shareholders have not yet voted to approve the multi-billion-dollar deal.
The invitation comes as British MPs review โonline safetyโ legislation that would give regulators sweeping powers to clamp down on social media and other internet platforms.

Australian PM Scott Morrison has appealed for calm Thursday after Solomon Islands counterpart Manasseh Sogavare claimed his country was โthreatened with invasion,โ without naming countries.
Sogavare furiously hit out at criticism of his security deal with China, saying his country was โinsultedโ after being treated like โkindergarten children walking around with Colt 45s in our pocketsโ.
The Solomon Islands severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 2019 in favor of Beijing, while riots after protests erupted against Sogavareโs rule in November saw Chinese communities in the capital Honiara attacked.
