Taiwan WHO Status Bill Passes Congress
Only President Bidenโs signature is required to make a bill supporting Taiwanโs bid to have its WHO observer status restored was passed unanimously by the House of Representatives.
The legislation directs the Secretary of State to establish a strategy for Taipeiโs return to the global health body, after it was stripped in 2017 and was unsuccessful in reapplying last year.
China has opposed Taiwanโs membership to global bodies as Beijing considers the island part of its territory, not an independent nation.

Some 8,000 British soldiers will participate in drills, Defence Ministry says
British troops are getting ready for one of their largest deployments in Europe since the cold war, the Defence Ministry (MoD) has said.
Thousands of UK soldiers are going to be sent to countries ranging from North Macedonia to Finland in the coming months to take part in joint drills with their counterparts from NATO, Finland, and Sweden.
Itโs expected that the deployment is going to peak at some 8,000 troops between April and June. Dozens of British tanks and more than a hundred armored vehicles will also arrive in Europe this summer.

EU nations to comply with Russiaโs payment terms โ reports
Gas distributors in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia are considering opening accounts at Russiaโs Gazprombank to convert their gas payments into rubles. (Financial Times)
Gazprom said Wednesday it had completely halted gas flows to Bulgaria and Poland after the two countries failed to pay for April supplies in the Russian currency.
According to the FT, negotiations between European buyers and Russian gas supplier Gazprom have intensified as payment deadlines approach.

A bomb scare was triggered at Israel's main intl transport hub, when a family attempted to take a "rusted piece of metal" home with them - which turned out to be an unexploded shell.
Panic ensued after the item, picked up during a visit to the Golan Heights, was shown to security inspectors. Other passengers scattered from the departure hall at Ben Gurion airport when officials sounded an evacuation alarm.
