EU commission sued over Covid-19 vaccine secrecy

Five Green MEPs are suing the European Commission over its ultra-secretive vaccine contracts, arguing that the heavily redacted versions released by the EC “made it impossible to understand the content of the agreements,” in a statement published Friday.

“Secrecy is a breeding ground for distrust and skepticism, and it has no place in public agreements with pharmaceutical companies,” Margrete Auken, a Danish MEP involved in the suit, declared, adding that “the European Commission’s refusal to provide transparency on its vaccine contracts affects the public’s confidence in the EU’s ability to obtain the best possible outcome for its citizens.”

Former US President Donald Trump has suggested that his successor, Joe Biden, was “taking orders” from the Easter Bunny. Biden has been mocked online for being whisked away by a person in a bunny suit while talking to a reporter.

Trump ripped into his successor during a speech in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday, where he was campaigning for Republicans for this November’s midterm elections.

“He’s shaking hands with the air. He’s walking around somewhat bewildered – I’d say it’s no good – and taking orders from the Easter Bunny. You saw that one?” the 45th president said.

Two people were killed in Paris amid election protests on Sunday evening after police fired at a vehicle, following a 'refusal to comply', AFP news agency has reported. A vehicle reportedly tried to clash onto the police officers at Pont Neuf and one of them fired his weapon.

Former President Donald Trump told British broadcaster Piers Morgan that were he in charge of the US, he’d tell his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that he couldn’t say the word “nuclear” ever again. Amid the conflict in Ukraine, Trump has swung between issuing nuclear threats and calling for negotiations.

China to build space ‘defense system’

China seeks to build a system capable of effectively monitoring asteroids and potentially altering their course to protect Earth from a possible impact.

The deputy head China’s National Space Administration (CNSA), Wu Yanhua, revealed on Sunday that Beijing expects to hit an asteroid as part of an experiment at some point in 2025.

What is planned to be set up is a near-Earth asteroid monitoring and defense system that would also be potentially capable of protecting spacecraft as well, Wu told China Central Television during this year’s Space Day of China event.

Hundreds of new graves dug in cemetery near Mariupol

Hundreds of new graves were filmed in a cemetery located in Mangush near Mariupol on Saturday.

"This square is especially for the [burial of] civilians. We buried everyone under individual numbers, which are marked in the morgue along with special peculiarities," funeral service worker Victor explained.

According to another worker, Artyom, Ukrainian soldiers were also buried in some of the graves.

"Each person has his own grave. People are buried in coffins. There are even buried the Ukrainian army's servicemen. They are buried in coffins, in a separate graves. If he is identified, he has a sign or his own number, and you can find him. There were no mass graves here," said Artyom.

Russian gas embargo ‘impossible’ for Austria – energy minister

Banning Russian natural gas imports is “currently impossible” for Austria, the country’s energy minister, Leonore Gewessler, told the press over the weekend.

“Austria is 80% dependent on Russian gas. As painful as it is, a gas embargo is currently not possible for us, just as it is for some other countries. The essence of sanctions is to let us last longer than [Russian President] Vladimir Putin, and we cannot do that without gas,” the official told Die Presse am Sonntag.
