Russian airlines told to prepare to fly without GPS – media

Russia's national air traffic regulator has told carriers to prepare to fly their planes without relying on the American Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite-based-navigation tool, newspaper Izvestia reported on Friday.

According to the letter from Rosaviatsia, which was seen by the outlet, it has instructed national airlines to prepare to cope without GPS after a March report by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which warned of increased cases of jamming and spoofing of the system's signal after February 24 – the day Russia started its military offensive in Ukraine.

Norman Foster proposes ‘city of the future’ for Ukraine

Renowned British architect Lord Norman Foster has offered to help rebuild the city of Kharkov after it was heavily damaged during the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Foster says he is already drawing up plans for the city’s “high-tech” revival and claims he could turn it into a “city of the future.”

The Times reports that Foster met with the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, on Monday via a video conference in which the two sides discussed the project to rebuild Kharkov – Ukraine’s second-largest city, which is located in the east of the country near the Russian border and had a reported population of 1.4 million people at the start of 2022.

Global supply of vital edible commodity under threat

Indonesia’s ban on exports of palm oil, the world’s most consumed edible oil, is set to severely exacerbate the already-squeezed supply of cooking oil across the globe.

Developing nations are expected to take the biggest blow.

The world’s biggest producer of palm oil will effectively ban exports of the good starting April 28, according to Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The halting of shipments of the cooking oil and its raw material is expected to help tame soaring domestic prices.

Russian producers obliged to sell more fuel at exchange auctions

In an attempt to reach a balance in the domestic gasoline and diesel markets, the Russian government will now be requiring the country’s oil producers to sell more fuel at exchange auctions.

“Oil companies will have to sell more fuel at exchange auctions. The decision is aimed at maintaining a stable situation in the domestic gasoline and diesel market in the conditions of seasonal increase in demand,” reads a statement published on the website of the Russian government.

Britons told to get ready for a ‘truly horrific’ winter



As many as four in 10 people in Britain could fall into fuel poverty when the price cap rises again in October, the heads of the nation’s energy companies have told the UK Parliament, The Guardian reported this week. According to the publication, they have called for more government support for vulnerable households which are facing a “truly horrific” winter.

The chief executive of E.ON UK, Michael Lewis, said that between 30% and 40% of Britons could go into fuel poverty from October when the industry regulator is expected to put up the annual limit on tariffs.

Knifeman goes on stabbing spree in British town

Police in the Warwickshire town of Bedworth, UK, have arrested a man in connection with a spate of attacks on Saturday morning. One man was stabbed, ten others suffered minor injuries, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Shortly after 8am on Saturday, police received reports that a number of people had been assaulted in the center of Bedworth. One man in his 20s was stabbed and later hospitalized while ten other victims suffered minor injuries. Warwickshire Police did not specify if these ten other victims also suffered knife wounds.

Russia to investigate alleged SAS activities in Ukraine

Russia’s Investigative Committee said on Saturday that it will look into media reports that sabotage experts from the British Army’s special forces have been deployed in western Ukraine.

“This data is going to be checked thoroughly,” especially considering the fact that Special Air Service (SAS) forces have established themselves as “experts in organizing mass protests, assassinations of political figures as well as preparing terrorist attacks,” the agency said in a statement.
