Beijing Explores Shellโ€™s Russian Gas Stake Purchase

Three key state-run Chinese energy giants are reportedly in talks with Shell to buy out the companyโ€™s 27.5% stake in a massive Russian liquified gas project.

Sources cited by Bloomberg claim CNOOC, CNPC and Sinopec Group are discussing joint or individual buyouts of the Sakhalin-2 share, although negotiations are still in the early stages.

On Thursday, shares in Shell rose 1.3% in London on the back of the news, weeks after admitting it will lose around $5BN by walking out on its Russia operations.

#Iraq

In Basra in Iraq, people get poisoned with polluted water. Every day, 4,000 people are hospitalised after drinking or simply touching it. Once known as the Venice of the East, the canals of Iraqโ€™s second-largest city are in a disastrous state. Upstream, brine chokes the Mesopotamian Marshes, once one of the worldโ€™s most extensive wetlands, and threatens the migrating birds and herds of buffalo. Dr Azzam Alwash, an engineer, started Nature Iraq to save his beloved marshes and draw the governmentโ€™s attention to the devastation caused by climate change and environmental vandalism.

Meanwhile, a report looking into attempted data breaches put Russia top of the list for being the most attacked nation so far this year.

"Work from Home to Beat Putin" - Or Halt Disastrous Energy Crisis in Europe? You decide:

The EU has called on citizens to drive less, don't bother with aircon or heating and work from home as much as possible. The new 'drive' is all about cutting dependence on Russian energy.

While European nations struggle to find an alternative supplier, it is instead asking citizens to make major cutbacks in a plan called "Playing My Part." Here's what it entails:

โ–ช๏ธHeat homes less in winter, keep air conditioning down in summer

โ–ช๏ธDrive slower on highways, restrict car aircon (uses fuel)

โ–ช๏ธUse the train instead of plane

โ–ช๏ธTake public transport, walk or cycle

โ–ช๏ธPromote car-free Sundays

So tighten the screw on Russia, by being cold in winter and too hot in summer. Oh, and forget you ever had a car!

The mandate went into effect Monday, but the health department didn't release any data to back up its decision to reverse.

Mask on, mask off.

Global supply of vital edible commodity under threat

Indonesiaโ€™s ban on exports of palm oil, the worldโ€™s most consumed edible oil, is set to severely exacerbate the already-squeezed supply of cooking oil across the globe.

Developing nations are expected to take the biggest blow.

The worldโ€™s biggest producer of palm oil will effectively ban exports of the good starting April 28, according to Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The halting of shipments of the cooking oil and its raw material is expected to help tame soaring domestic prices.
