Yale Names & Shames Companies for Operating in Russia with School Grades?

Yale University has been been tracking over 1,000 companies, regarding their response to the military action in Ukraine. It has now released a list of firms, grading their initiative to cut ties with Russia from A to F.

The crude database praises those which have made a โ€œclean breakโ€ or โ€œsurgical removalโ€ and includes virtuous entities such as the BlackRock investment firm, BP and Activision Blizzard.

Companies that โ€œare just continuing business-as-usual in Russiaโ€ were graded F, with the document offering a way to โ€œget in touchโ€ with them to change your grade.

No care if firms go bust! Good thing Yale didn't do big business grades in 2003 - Fs all round.

Beijing Explores Shellโ€™s Russian Gas Stake Purchase

Three key state-run Chinese energy giants are reportedly in talks with Shell to buy out the companyโ€™s 27.5% stake in a massive Russian liquified gas project.

Sources cited by Bloomberg claim CNOOC, CNPC and Sinopec Group are discussing joint or individual buyouts of the Sakhalin-2 share, although negotiations are still in the early stages.

On Thursday, shares in Shell rose 1.3% in London on the back of the news, weeks after admitting it will lose around $5BN by walking out on its Russia operations.

#Iraq

In Basra in Iraq, people get poisoned with polluted water. Every day, 4,000 people are hospitalised after drinking or simply touching it. Once known as the Venice of the East, the canals of Iraqโ€™s second-largest city are in a disastrous state. Upstream, brine chokes the Mesopotamian Marshes, once one of the worldโ€™s most extensive wetlands, and threatens the migrating birds and herds of buffalo. Dr Azzam Alwash, an engineer, started Nature Iraq to save his beloved marshes and draw the governmentโ€™s attention to the devastation caused by climate change and environmental vandalism.

City officials dropped an indoor masking requirement just days after reinstating it

The US city of Philadelphia has reversed course on a city-wide mask mandate, with officials citing a drop in Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations despite reimposing the same rule less than a week ago.

The cityโ€™s Board of Health announced the move on Friday, pointing to a โ€œrecent leveling-off of case counts and a decrease in Covid-19 hospitalizations,โ€ though it noted that residents and visitors are still...

The bureau said a rise in ransomware attacks targeting farming co-ops could disrupt โ€œthe entire food chainโ€

The White House has threatened to retaliate should Beijing set up a military base in the Solomon Islands

The United States said on Friday it would respond if China builds a permanent military base in the Solomon Islands, warning such a move would create โ€œsignificant concernsโ€ after the country signed a security deal with Beijing earlier this month.

Austria explains stance on Russian gas ban
RT World News (RSS)

Vienna says it has โ€œno choiceโ€ but to continue imports from Moscow

Austria cannot afford to ban imports of Russian gas as part of sanctions on Moscow, Finance Minister Magnus Brunner has said. Many Western states, including the EU, imposed sweeping economic restrictions on Russia in response to its military campaign in Ukraine.

Brunner told CNN on Friday that his country supports โ€œall sanctionsโ€ on Moscow, but โ€œnot the gas embargo.โ€

โ€œOnce a sanction hits yourself more than the one targeted by the sanction, I think thereโ€™s not much use,โ€ he said.

He added that Austrian industries are so depend...
