India Power Crisis: Eight-Hour Blackouts After Hottest March in Century

Coal shortages and extreme heat have triggered blackouts across parts of India. A surge in electricity demands has seen areas make cuts, while residents look for alternatives.

Coal accounts for 70% of India's electricity generation, with the region's third-biggest economy still looking to recover from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Western nations are trying to push India into taking a stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, while New Delhi looks to snap up cheaper Russian energy.

Heat waves are compounding inflation and industries getting back on their feet - data suggests it's been the hottest March since 1901.

Macron Accuses Le Pen of being โ€œRussian Puppetโ€ - Has French Presidential Race had its Russiagate moment?

Candidate Marine Le Pen has fallen about 20 points behind in the latest opinion polls ahead of Sundayโ€™s final round of voting. In the one and only public TV debate, Emmanuel Macron accused her of being in Moscowโ€™s pocket.

โ€œYou are not just talking about Russia, but your banker. It's hardly surprising that Russia took part in the campaign to destabilize me in 2017,โ€ Macron claimed.

Le Pen urged against banning imports on Russian oil, claiming the consequences would be โ€œcataclysmicโ€ for French people, and claimed it would be โ€œa huge risk for the Westโ€ to send arms to Kiev. She also said she would move to ban the Muslim headscarf during the live debate.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic sliced through the decision too, calling it โ€œcrazyโ€, while Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina suggested demanding players formally denounce the operation and leaders to allow them in.

No calls for American/British players to condemn events in Yemen have been confirmed yet... Serving up Saudi Arabia is ace.
