Ex-German minister calls out Ukrainian โ€˜conspiracy theoriesโ€™

Sigmar Gabriel, who served as Germanyโ€™s top diplomat from 2017 to 2018, says the current government in Berlin can and should defend itself against โ€œconspiracy theoriesโ€ leveled at it by the likes of Ukrainian Ambassador Andrey Melnyk.

In an op-ed published by Der Spiegel on Sunday, Gabriel described as โ€œdangerousโ€ the narrative peddled by the Ukrainian representative in Berlin, according to which German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had โ€œfor decades established a cobweb of contacts with Russia,โ€ allegedly involving members of the current German government.

Chinaโ€™s third aircraft carrier launch delayed โ€“ media

A massive Covid-19 outbreak in Shanghai has stalled the planned launch of Chinaโ€™s third aircraft carrier, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Sunday, citing sources.

According to the publication, the vessel was expected to be ready this month, but the schedule was affected by problems with the supply chain.

โ€œThe plan faces delay as the rampant pandemic in Shanghai has delayed the transport of some key components,โ€ an unnamed source told the SCMP, a Hong Kong-based English-language newspaper owned by Alibaba Group.

Former Fishing Village in China has more Billionaires than New York

China now hosts three cities with the greatest number of mega-rich, according to data from the Global Rich List - including Shenzhen.

144 billionaires live in Beijing, 121 in Shanghai, and now New York has been knocked out the top three (110).

Shenzhen, a former fishing village turned Chinaโ€™s Silicon Valley, has 113 of the globeโ€™s most wealthy. The city has been basking in a growing concentration of wealth, adding eight billionaires to its list since last year.

According to Heng Chen, an associate professor of economics at the University of Hong Kong, Shenzhenโ€™s rise stemmed from its efforts to make the city welcoming to businesses, for instance, by offering tax breaks to high-tech companies.

The video shows head of Ukraine's second largest party Viktor Medvedchuk asking presidents Putin and Zelensky to exchange him for โ€œfighters and civilians of Mariupol" - a city mostly overtaken by Russian forces.

Medvedchuk was arrested by the Ukrainian security service last week after breaking his house arrest terms, imposed alongside charges of treason.

In Russia the reaction to the idea of swapping Medvedchuk for prisoners of war has been mixed, since the politician is neither a Russian citizen, nor a combatant.

US to use โ€œUkrainian methodโ€ to Line Pockets from China-Taiwan Clash (report)

According to Japan Business Press, America will use the "Ukrainian method" if China launches an operation against Taiwan - taking no part in hostilities themselves, but earning money from the arms trade.

At the start of this year, US defense companiesโ€™ share indices fluctuated around and sometimes below zero, but after Russiaโ€™s special operation began those shares jumped sharply.

The Biden administrationโ€™s "Ukrainian method" is just a "good story" for US realpolitik national interests without taking into account any humanitarian considerations, the article says.
