Ukraine Releases Footage of Arrested Opposition Leader Pleading for Prisoner Exchange

The video shows head of Ukraine's second largest party Viktor Medvedchuk asking presidents Putin and Zelensky to exchange him for โ€œfighters and civilians of Mariupol" - a city mostly overtaken by Russian forces.

Medvedchuk was arrested by the Ukrainian security service last week after breaking his house arrest terms, imposed alongside charges of treason.

In Russia the reaction to the idea of swapping Medvedchuk for prisoners of war has been mixed, since the politician is neither a Russian citizen, nor a combatant.
