Navy Commander-in-Chief meets crew of sunken Moskva missile cruiser

Former fishing village in China has more billionaires than New York

China now hosts three cities with the greatest number of billionaires in the world, data from Global Rich List, an annual ranking prepared by the Shanghai-based research firm Hurun Report, shows.

The greatest number of billionaires – 144 – live in Beijing, followed by Shanghai with 121. New York used to occupy the third spot with 110, but was recently outdone by Shenzhen, a former fishing village turned China’s Silicon Valley, with 113 of the globe’s most wealthy. The city has been basking in a growing concentration of wealth, adding eight billionaires to its list since last year.

Global growth optimism hits all-time low – research

A monthly survey by investment bank BoFA Securities has shown that optimism among fund managers over global economic growth has fallen to historic lows. The contraction comes amid concerns about possible stagflation, which is at its highest since August 2008.

According to the report, released on Tuesday, a net 71% of those polled were pessimistic about global growth prospects in the coming months. That is the most since the survey records began in the early 1990s.

Inhabitants of East Germany are less willing to accept the idea of making sacrifices for the war in Ukraine than their countrymen in the West, according to a poll conducted by Eon Foundation published on Saturday. While an overwhelming majority of Germans – 71% – said they were concerned the new EU sanctions against Russia would cause lasting damage to the German economy, most believed the economic punishment was necessary.

US military using Ukraine conflict to prepare for future wars - AP

The US Army is training to fight in an environment heavily shaped by the Russian military campaign against Ukraine, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Saturday.

The purpose of this month’s wargame in California is to “prepare for future fights against a major adversary such as Russia or China,” the news agency said.

The role players in the exercise at the Fort Irwin National Training Center in the Mojave Desert speak Russian, AP reports. Around 4,500 soldiers from the 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division are pitted against the fictional “Devonian’ forces – the exercise’s apparent stand-in for the Russians – who control the fictional town of Ujen.
