Finland and Sweden speak out on NATO membership plans
RT World News (RSS)

The leaders of the two Nordic states have met to discuss regional security in view of the conflict in Ukraine

Finlandโ€™s Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her Swedish counterpart Magdalena Andersson have expanded on their countryโ€™s possible NATO bids following bilateral talks on security in Stockholm on Wednesday.

Helsinkiโ€™s decision on whether to apply for the US-led military bloc or not โ€œwill happen quite fast,โ€ Marin said during a joint press conference. โ€It will happen in weeks, not months.โ€

Finland, just like Sweden, had been pursuing a policy of not joining any military alliances, but...

BoJo Should GO: Over half in UK want PM to resign (poll)

A YouGov poll held Tuesday found 57% of Britons think PM Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak should resign after being handed fines for breaching lockdown restrictions last year.

Johnson is the first sitting UK PM to have been found guilty of breaking the law, but he and Sunak have so far refused to stand down despite both having flat-out denied they attended the parties.

โ€œIt didnโ€™t occur to me that this might be breaking the rules,โ€ said the man who set them in the first place.

Japan AUKUS recruitment FAKE NEWS - Tokyo denies membership offer reports

Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun has reported that Tokyo has been informally offered a place within the new AUKUS military bloc citing unnamed govt officials, but Chief Cabinet Sec Hirokazu Matsuno has denied the claims.

Japan is reportedly developing two types of hypersonic weapons and a railgun hypersonic missile defense system, which the paper claims is the main motivation for Canberra, Washington and London to bring Tokyo to the table.

Japanese law restricts it to using nuclear energy for peaceful means though, which would rule it out from developing nuclear submarines were it to join โ€œJAUKUSโ€.

Using artificial intelligence in court cases is โ€œunconstitutionalโ€ say Malaysian lawyers

Malaysian lawyers say the use of an AI system in the countryโ€™s justice system is โ€œunconstitutionalโ€ and claim that no one really understands how it works. Thatโ€™s after courts in two Malaysian states launched a test program to use AI to assist judges in delivering sentences for convicted drug dealers and rapists.

The AI software, developed by state government firm Sarawak Information Systems, was first introduced in 2020 to two courts in Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo as part of a pilot scheme to examine the efficiency of arti...

โ€˜Diplomatic immunityโ€™ wonโ€™t be used to shield British Army from Kenyaโ€™s justice system

The British Army has lost its right to diplomatic immunity in Kenya after a high-court judge said on Wednesday that a 2015 defense agreement allows a lawsuit against UK soldiers for having allegedly caused a wildfire and the death of a local man.

The historic ruling concerns the case of a massive wildfire allegedly caused by UK soldiers stationed at Nanyuki army base in the East African country, a former British colony that declared independence in 1963. The 10,000-acre inferno swept through the surrounding Lolldaiga Hills Ranch sanctu...
