Gold Prices Hold Steady as Investors Dread US Inflation Data

Right before the publication of the US inflation analytics on Tuesday, gold prices creeped 0.1% higher to $1,955.61 per ounce, despite previously hitting its monthly peak.

"A higher-than-expected headline US CPI print may nudge spot gold closer to the psychologically important $2,000 level, considering bullion's time-honoured role as an inflation hedge," an expert told Reuters.

The new data will likely prompt the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by some 50 basis points come May.

US Treasury Department: Telecom firms EXEMPT from Russia sanctions

Businesses involving โ€œservices, software, hardware, or technology incident to the exchange of communications over the internetโ€ will no longer be subject to sanctions over Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

The move follows pleas from NGOs and internet freedom groups which argued that cutting Russians off from communication with the West would do more harm than good.

The decision is bad news for Kiev though, which has urged the West for a digital iron curtain by revoking Russiaโ€™s access to the Domain Name System.

'90% of Chinese' Think US is โ€œBULLYโ€ in Ukraine Crisis - Poll

A huge number of Chinese people surveyed online believe the US has acted like a bully and hegemon throughout the Ukraine crisis, according to a poll on state-backed Huanquiโ€™s Weibo account.

Over 12,000 were also asked about the US role in sanctioning China, and 92.2% believed they were attempting to bully Beijing, while 89% believed Washington is trying to establish an Indo-Pacific NATO equivalent.

Last week FM spox Zhao Lijian claimed the conflict in Ukraine and US sanctions have โ€œincurred an influx of refugees, capital outflow and energy shortage in Europe, but enabled the US to make a fortune.โ€
