Serbia says it was blackmailed over UN vote

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that his country has been pressured under the threat of sanctions to back Russiaโ€™s suspension from the UN Human Rights Council.

โ€œOur initial decision was to abstain, but then we were subjected to countless and difficult pressure,โ€ Vucic told RTS TV. โ€œThey said - do you know that a decision is being made whether Serbia will be exempted from the package of sanctions on [Russian] oil, and whether it will be able to import oil after May 15?โ€

Belgrade has close historical ties with Moscow but joined other Western nations this week in a vote against Russia in response to its ongoing military campaign in Ukraine.

Musk identity CRISIS? Teslaโ€™s Texas Gigafactory launches (questions)

Some 15,000 guests took part in the official opening of Teslaโ€™s enormous new plant in Austin on Thursday - complete with a nightclub-esque Dogecoin drone show - as the electric carmaker continues its pivot away from California to Texas.

Tesla will receive over $60mn in tax breaks to build the โ€œgigafactoryโ€ in the Republican state, where it now has its HQ, a move which some claim signals CEO Elon Musk is abandoning the liberal market that established his wealth.

"I think he is having a bit of an identity crisis and has forgotten who his customer is, and it is going to come back to bite him," tech analyst Rob Enderle said of Musk. โ€œHe doesn't seem to remember that most of the people who buy electric cars are the liberals."

RECORD World food prices to harm poorest - UN

The UNโ€™s food price index has shot up at the fastest rate in 14 years to new record high levels in the wake of the Ukraine conflict, with the number of undernourished people likely to rocket from 8mn to 13mn.

Marchโ€™s indexes showed a 56% rise in vegetable oil prices from a year ago, with cereal prices up 37%; almost 50 countries depend on Russia and Ukraine for at least 30% of supplies in wheat.

The biggest victims are the poorest countries, where food accounts for much higher proportions of consumer spending - 40% in sub-Saharan Africa, for example.

The stateโ€™s representatives passed a bill by 66-28 majority, but was met with outrage by trans activists who slammed it as โ€œthe most deadly, sweeping and hostile law targeting transgender people in the countryโ€.

Gender reassignment surgery would also be banned under the proposed legislation.

Turning back time - researchers reverse skin ageing by 30 YEARS

A new study claims to have reversed human skin cell ageing by 30 years by adapting technology originally used to create the first-ever cloned mammal, Dolly the Sheep.

Researchers are hopeful that the findings will revolutionize regenerative medicine if the techniques can be applied to other cell types, but urged caution as the current process increases the risk of cancers.

The UK-based scientists hope the IPS method they have developed will eventually be able to tackle age-related diseases such as diabetes, heart conditions and neurological disorders.
