Visitors to nursing homes will be expected to produce vaccine passes to see their loved ones, according to new guidelines.

Tadhg Daly, of Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI), the representative group for nursing homes, said he expected the vaccine pass guidelines will be announced in the coming week.

Ulster Bank customers will be given six months’ notice to close their accounts and find a new provider from early next year, the bank said on Friday.

Ulster Bank said it was “encouraging customers to get ready” for changes coming in 2022 as part of its withdrawal from the Irish market. In the meantime, it said it was continuing to serve existing customers, and that no action was required by customers yet.

“Ulster Bank will contact customers directly when they need to take action and this will commence in early 2022 when we plan to begin to serve formal account closure notice to current account and deposit account customers,” it said.

REPORT OF DOCTORS REFUSING TO TREAT PATIENTS UNTIL THEY HAVE RECEIVED COVID JAB

I have been reading and hearing secondhand reports about doctors refusing to treat patients until they have been vaccinated against Covid.

I’ve even heard reports of people presenting with suicidal ideation being refused a doctor’s appointment until they are vaccinated, despite the urgency of their situation.

Over the weekend I spoke to a lady who phoned her GP recently for an appointment. This person has ongoing health issues that required surgery earlier this year. 

She was told she would not get an appointment until she was vaccinated.

It was possible to get an immediate appointment to be vaccinated in the local chemist and an appointment with the GP was organised for later in the day as she was deemed a high priority case and in urgent need of pain relief.

Thankfully she is now in recovery and had no adverse reaction to the jab.

She now has time to reflect on what happened. “I was in so much pain I would have done anything to get relief,” she told me. 

She said there is something that really puzzles her. Like myself, she has heard media reports that there is a lead in period before the jab is effective.

She was given an immediate appointment by the GP after she got the jab suggesting that his concern was not to prevent infection in his surgery. “Seeing me a few hours after the jab didn’t reduce the risk of infection. What was his idea in insisting that I get it,” she asks.

She told me she feels that she was coerced at a time when she was mentally and physically vulnerable because of the pain she was enduring.

If some GPs are coercing their patients into being jabbed, surely that is a breach of their code of practice?
