Ministers have urged parents to get their children vaccinated against Covid-19 amid concerns about the vaccination programme in secondary schools.

The plea comes after the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that around one in 15 children in school years 7 to 11 in England are estimated to have had coronavirus in the week to October 2.

Many knew this was coming more divide to blame the unvaccinated.

The spread of Covid-19 is on the rise again among people over 65 who account for more than one in 10 infections over the last two weeks.

There were 1,926 cases of the virus among people of pension age in the two weeks up to last Thursday.

The increase has been marked among 65 to 74-year-olds when compared with the two weeks to October 3.

It comes as the roll out of an additional top-up vaccine to residents of nursing homes over the age of 65 starts this week.

Amid evidence of waning immunity against infection after six months, the additional vaccine is also being offered to all people over 80 and to people whose immune system is very low due to a particular medical condition.

The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital rose to 400, the highest since March.
