Earnings Improve, But Beware Of Trojan Horses

Most US analysts remain optimistic about earnings continuing to improve despite economic growth deteriorating as inflation increases and liquidity decreases. However, earnings are the byproduct of economic growth, and so the sustainability of record-high earnings and corporate profit margins is questionable. While some surges in demand were created by fiscal policies in response to the pandemic, reversion of activity will be worsened due to the pull forward of consumption, which could result in a proliferation of valuation declines.
