$411bn To Rebuild Ukraine: World Bank's Rising Estimate
A joint assessment from the World Bank, Kiev's leadership, the EC and the UN finds the cost of Ukraine's recovery to be more than two times the countryโs projected GDP in 2022, and rising.
7.1m are now in poverty, it says, and the countryโs progress has been set back almost two decades, a situation the World Bankโs VP for Europe and Asia, Anna Bjerde, dubbed โsobering.โ
The figure underscores the need for continued international support, she added, as Bloomberg reports the institution has already funnelled $20.6bn to Kiev.

โ๏ธGandhi Jailed For 2 Years In Defamation Case
Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was jailed for two years on Thursday after he was found guilty of defamation for a 2019 speech in which he allegedly asked why all thieves have the surname Modi.
Gandhi could now be immediately disqualified from the legislature, and although he will appeal the decision it could deal a hefty blow to his Congress party ahead of the 2024 general election against Modi's BJP party.
Gandhi was sentenced in the city of Surat in Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs home state of Gujarat, with his sentence suspended for 30 days as he was given bail, as local media reports suggest it is unlikely he will actually serve time behind bars.

A group of French language activists has filed a legal complaint about translations at the Notre Dame only containing translations in English, contravening a 1994 law demanding at least two other languages on public signs.
Defense of the French Language has successfully campaigned to add languages to signs at the Eiffel Tower, claiming the law โprotects French because it promotes linguistic pluralism.โ
The activists have also filed legal complaints against 20 bodies for their use of English, including Charles de Gaulle airport, the national postal service, and the world-famous Sorbonne โbusiness school.โ
