Franceโs โBlack Thursdayโ: Unions Erupt Amidst Mounting Macron Pressure
France is set for partial paralysis Thursday as unions hold their first mass demonstrations in protest over President Emmanuel Macronโs hugely unpopular pension reform plans that were pushed through without parliamentary vote.
Only one in three national rail services are running, metro service in the capital Paris is down to just two lines, while demonstrators have already stormed Charles de Gaulle airport with airports in Toulouse, Marseille and Lyon expect cancellations and delays.
Macron doubled down on his reform plans Wednesday, insisting they must go through this year despite the outrage developing, with critics slamming his response as โself-satisfied,โ โout of touchโ and โoffensive.โ
