In 1959, as a protest, the voters of Sao Paulo, Brazil voted for Cacareco, the rhino at the Sao Paulo zoo. With over 500 candidates running for the seat on the City Council, the five-year old black rhino won by a landslide with over 100,000 votes.

Rhino bulls are loners who only meet with cows to breed. However, it is believed they stay close to their female and child. If a bull encounters a stranger's calf, it is not uncommon for him to kill the calf in order to mate with the cow.
