Kandu was a female Australian quartet made up of airline hostesses who took to the skies by day and the studio by night. Their one and only single, ‘Passion’, released in 1990, is a rare artefact of pop ambition, light harmonies, and the kind of unfiltered joy often found in short-lived musical ventures.

‘Passion’ came out on DSK Records, a label so obscure that this is its only known release on Discogs. That alone makes Kandu's story even more fascinating. Despite limited commercial reach, the single reportedly charted in Queensland, peaking at number 138, a curious achievement that hints at local love, maybe through word-of-mouth or community radio support.

The idea of four airline hostesses crafting a pop single in their off-hours speaks to a broader cultural moment. The late '80s saw more women stepping into both professional and creative spaces. Kandu may not have been aiming for stardom, but they embodied a spirit of camaraderie and creative freedom.
